The Original ‘Fast And Furious’ …
‘Fast And Furious’ Every so often someone comes along and does something in a sport or whatever, that makes a radical difference. This person was the original ‘Fast And Furious’. His name was Frank A. Federici, the owner of the funny car called “The Shark”, the first Corvette funny car! He also was the first driver to do a burn out past the staging lights.
One day on the Connecticut Dragway, Frank did a burn out right through the staging lights/start line, he went about 200’ down the track. The crowd went crazy!
Ever since then funny car drivers do a burn out before they race. Most funny cars back in the 60’s & 70’s would get towed back to the pits, not Frank; he would drive his car all the way back to the pits with parachutes billowing behind him.
Once he took his pet monkey for a trip down the 1/4 mile and put the monkey on top of the car on his return trip to the pits. He was a crowd pleaser. He was an asset to the sport of racing.
Another time, while in New York City, he jumped out of his tow car dressed in his fire suit with his pet monkey and ran around scaring people in Times Square at 2:00 a.m.
He was called ‘Fast And Furious’ because of his initials “FAF”. The Original ‘Fast And Furious’ Frank passed away (2001) at the young age of 55 and is sorely missed.
He was a true showman of the Funny car era.
Keep Them Rolling!
