In memory of Bill Abatecola
My husband, Bill Abatecola, owner of Old Iron AZ LLC, lived life for others, his family, his friends, and strangers.
He invited people into our home on the holidays when they had no one in their lives. He offered rides to people stranded in the Saguaro National Park West. He stopped to offer assistance to someone stuck on the side of the road and would give water to everyone he met that looked thirsty.
I loved him for his caring ways. His crazy and gentle humor led most of you to believe he was bitten by numerous small jellyfish in San Diego. The true storyteller, he told stories of his real life, except his end of life. He didn’t want to share that he was in a battle with stage 4 cancer. He thought he could beat it with Chemo. The 4 treatments did a number on him. Peeling skin hence the jellyfish story. But between August – November 2020 he was feeling pretty good. Then he couldn’t walk, some days were so bad he needed a wheelchair. The Friday after Thanksgiving 2021 he said his stomach hurt when he ate. I said let’s go to the hospital. We then found out the cancer was everywhere. He came home to hospice care on December 5th and died December 10, 2021. I will keep the business going as long as I am able in his memory. I will love and miss him forever.
